A petite and intelligent young lady with lots of magical talent, Gisele Bessette is extremely bright, loves to read, and memorizes things with ease. Backed by her family's wealth and resources (her father is a very successful, retired wizard,) she knows a plethora of spells by heart, the water- and ice-based ones her favorites. However, as she is an only child with doting parents and few true friends, she has never gone into the world unsheltered to gain any real experience using these spells. Additionally, she sometimes overestimates herself due to pride of her smarts and status and an eagerness to prove herself. Deep down though, she is a sweet and slightly lonely girl who only wants to be respected for her abilities like her father.

Life hasn't been too kind to Esther "Myoujou" Sabbah, but she knows better than to waste time pitying herself…or maybe that would just be too much effort. Slightly cynical, but generally cheerful and laid back, she lives modestly with her older sister, their parents both deceased. Unfortunately, these sisters are very money-obsessed, and Myou is a bit of a pickpocket, seeing it as a justified way of obtaining her needs. It inspires her to come up with creative thievery methods, whereas normally she's quite lazy (which is reflected in her messy hair, clothes and stocky figure.) However, she can be extremely clumsy — especially if she loses her glasses — she's very nearsighted! Lastly…she hates cold weather.
